WelcomeReading the Bible together can not only be a sweet, memorable time for your family; it can also be an integral practice of discipleship for both your children and you as you discuss and memorize God’s word and promises. Following is a list of Bible verses every kid should know as a guide that can be helpful as you begin memorizing scripture with your children.

Deuteronomy 6:5
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Matthew 19:14
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
1 Timothy 4:12
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Proverbs 20:11
Even small children are known by their actions, so is their conduct really pure and upright?
UNDERSTANDING
Who We AreThe Bible is a great way to help kids understand the purpose of life a little bit better. While kids memorize verses, they gain more faith in their beliefs and grow closer to God.
Another great reason to memorize Bible verses is when life gives them trials they can have these inspiring verses in their minds to help them through some of the hardest times in their lives.
Mission
How to Make Learning the Bible Fun For Kids
1. Begin with a game. Starting with entertainment helps break the ice and grab their attention. It’s not necessary for the game to directly relate to the study topic, but linking the two can make the lesson more seamless and immersive.
2. Have a relaxed environment. Children will pay more attention when they’re comfortable. Soft chairs or bean bags are a great idea. The room itself should be inviting and fun, but not too distracting.
3. Give them snacks. Kids can’t listen if they’re focused on their growling stomach. Offering light snacks, like apple slices and juice boxes, will make them happy and gain their attention.
4. Get the children involved. Pick a short and simple passage they’ll be able to understand. Instead of reading it yourself, ask for a volunteer (or have the child do it if you’re one-on-one). They’re more likely to listen if a classmate does the talking.
5. Discuss and ask questions. Bible study isn’t just a lecture. Ask kids to offer their own opinions and feedback – you may be surprised by what you hear.
Ideas
1. Bible scrapbook: Break out all of those pictures, stickers, and washable markers and let the kids go to town making scrapbook pages. If you have multiple kids involved, give them each a part of the story and have them create their own page or have them work in groups on a portion of the story. Then, when everyone is finished, put it all together and read them the story book they created!
2. Coloring books and activity sheets: You can find these pretty much anywhere. You can find some online and print them. You can even find Bible coloring books at the Dollar Store or Walmart. My favorite coloring books are the ones that have parts of the story on the page, too.
3. Craft supplies: Let the kids use their imagination. This is one I would use if I didn’t get a chance to have a craft already prepared for my Sunday school class. Maybe let them use clay or paper and crayons while you read them a Bible story and see what they come up with at the end of the story. You may be surprised at just how creative kids can be!
4. Decorate with Scripture: Hang Scripture everywhere! Have nice framed verses hanging on the walls of your house. Post Scripture on the refrigerator door. Have the kids decorate their own pictures with verses and hang them on the walls in their rooms.
